How to Get GTINs (Barcodes) for Your Private-Label Products
If you plan to sell your products on Amazon, advertise them on Google Shopping, or list them on certain other marketplaces, you will need a unique GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) — commonly known as a UPC or barcode — for each product.
Origin Well Nutrition products are supplied without pre-assigned barcodes. As the brand owner, you are responsible for obtaining valid GTINs through official channels and placing them on your labels when required.
Why You May Need a GTIN
A GTIN is required in these common situations:
- Selling on Amazon
- Running Google Shopping ads
- Listing products on certain retail or wholesale platforms that require standardized product identification
- Some inventory and logistics systems
Without a properly assigned GTIN, your products may be rejected or limited on these channels.
How to Obtain GTINs Legally
GTINs must be purchased and registered through GS1, the official global organization that manages barcode standards.
Steps:
- Create an account with GS1 US (or the GS1 organization in your country).
Official website: https://www.gs1us.org/ - Purchase a company prefix and the number of GTINs you need.
- Assign a unique GTIN to each product variation (different formulas, sizes, or packaging usually require separate numbers).
- Keep records of the GTINs you have assigned.
Only GTINs obtained through GS1 (or an authorized GS1 member organization) are considered valid. Self-generated or unofficial barcodes are not accepted and should not be used on labels.

Adding the GTIN to Your Labels
Once you have legally obtained your GTINs:
- You may include the barcode and corresponding number on your product labels.
- Make sure the barcode is printed clearly and meets standard size and placement requirements for the channels where you sell.
- Origin Well Nutrition’s label design process allows you to incorporate your GTIN once you have it.
Our team reviews labels for compliance with required elements (Supplement Facts, required disclaimers, company information, etc.). Adding a properly obtained GTIN is your responsibility as the brand owner.
