Designing Your Label: The Small Details That Matter
Good news: the design side of your label is mostly up to you. Colors, fonts, icons, illustrations — it's your brand's face on the shelf. But a few small technical details separate a label that gets approved on the first try from one that bounces back for revisions. Here's what to know before you (or we) finalize your design.
The Content You Already Know
As covered in our labeling basics: every label needs the supplement name, net quantity, Supplement Facts panel, ingredient list, and your company name and address. That part doesn't change based on design choices — it's the foundation everything else sits on top of.
What You Can Play With
Background color, font color, shapes, illustrations, icons — all yours to customize. Two rules keep it legible and compliant:
- Minimum type size: nothing smaller than 6pt on a white background, 7pt on a black background.
- Contrast: your text doesn't have to be pure black-and-white, but it needs to read clearly against its background at a glance.

This is where a lot of clients get their "aha" moment: you start from a fixed template — the required panels laid out in their locked positions — and your final design fills that same structure with your brand's colors, logo, and voice. Our standing advice: order a sample before you scale. It's the fastest way to catch a font-size or contrast issue before it's sitting on 500 bottles.
